Day 39: Gigantic Map, Prawn and Lighthouse

We stopped about an hour and a half short of our destination last night for me to just close my eyes for a half an hour.  When I woke up at 3:00 AM I tapped on π’s window to see what had happened.  He just laughed.  I guess we both just zonked—the kids too!—and neither of us stirred until then!  It was pointless to try and go back to sleep so we decided to drive on and see what we could see.

We started at a truck stop where, after changing and getting ready for the day, we found a wall of pamphlets of stuff we could do along our drive.  There was a gigantic map of the entire continent across one entire wall—the kids were absolutely in love!  They were showing me the roads we’ve driven along, following the pathway we’ve taken and telling me every story about every place that we've been.

"Here's Warnnambool!  Wasn't that where we played on the flying foxes until it started raining?"

"Here's Adelaide!  That was the funnest chess board EVER!"

"Here's Tassy!  Wow we were SOUTH!  Can you get any farther south before hitting the south pole?"

They were having so much fun with the map it really was a shame to rip them away from it—I love when educational meets adventure.

Back in the cars we hop scotched our way up the coast stopping at parks and beaches and just having a fun time.  We found a giant prawn.  We saw more rainbows.  We sang fun car songs, played fun car games, watched a bunch of movies and just…traveled!

Most of the BBQ's we've used are clean when we start, this one was the worst.  Luckily for us, we bring cleaning supplies with us.  It's felt like a tiny bit of service to do as we travel to leave the park BBQ better than we found it.

We stopped for dinner and π wanted me to post these pics and title them Pizza on the Barbi.

We pulled in to Cleveland (a suburb of Brisbane) around 10:30 and stopped at the park for a potty break.  We couldn’t stop at just any park, we had to pull all the way to the end of the peer and go to the light house park.  Sitting in the car waiting for π to come out of the toilet, I heard a baby laughing.  It took a full minute or two to realize it wasn’t a baby,  I was hearing dolphins chattering!!  Π² came rushing over and wanted me to come see the huge bats hanging in the trees.  É called out wanting me to come watch him play on the toys in the park.  K begged for me to stay in the car and watch a movie with her.  Luckily all the littles were all sleeping!  Even torn like I was between wanting to be everything for everyone, it was just such an incredible moment.  I am The Dolly Mama!  These are my kids and I actually like them!  I enjoy spending time with them!  I love talking to them and learning from them and teaching them!  They’re fun and inquisitive and funny and smart and just incredible!!  I love that we’re in a new place where everything is new and their curiosity is peeked.  It’s fun to see them so animated and excited about everything.  I think I’ve decided,

I LOVE AUSTRALIA!!!!
